Cape May Wine Festival, Cape May, NJ
October 10-11, 2009
Again Russell and the Valenzano Wine Team had to battle the weather! This time it was the wind. With a steady 25 knots of wind with gusts to 40, Dangerous RED and Russell's New Berry wines were being poured sideways! When others were cryin about the wind, Russ felt right at home as the wind was filled with salt water from the Atlantic Ocean. It was just a day breeze and on Sunday it calmed, turning the festival into a party that will be remembered for the ages...
Alba Wine Festival, Milford, N.J.
October 3-4, 2009
Talk about a change in weather! Sunshine was on the agenda as Russ, Larry and the rest of the Valenzano Wine Team went to Milford N.J. for the Alba wine festival. What a beautiful autumn setting with the leaves turning and summer-like temperatures warming the earth. The crowd was electric as they enjoyed Russell's New Berry and Dangerous RED wines, ate lunch and danced to the live music. A good time was had by all!

SIPtember Wine Festival, Essex County NJ.
September 26-27
Rain did not stop Russell Newberry and the Valenzano Winery Team from selling delicious Dangerous RED and Russell's New Berry wines. Along with other award winning wines, t-shirts and posters for sale, the team battled the inclement weather, laughed in the face of mother nature and turned what could have been a "downer" into a successful event. "There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear!", as Russ is fond of saying...
Camping World Series East Pool Tournament, Dover, DE
September 25, 2009
During the Camping World Series East race, my friend and manager Larry Jamerson quietly asked me if I knew how to play pool. I replied being a beer drinkin sailor from Alaska (turned New Jersey wino connisuer) I have spent many a time around (on and under) pool tables. He said that was good because he had signed me up the evening before for the celebrity pool tournament scheduled to start at 7 p.m. that night. I was like, "Why didn't you tell me before I started drinkin all day?"
He said, " Because I wasn't sure if you could play, or if you would be receptive to the idea, but just being in the tourney would be huge exposure for our Dangerous RED cause."
I replied, "And what if I get lucky and win the tournament?"
Randy Bobe Jr., owner of Chispanic Enterprises, Inc and sponser of Russell Newberry's Famous Lump Crabcakes and Crab Critters, and Sean Flanagan, owner of Always A Good Sign, overheard this conversation and with great enthusiasm start handing me beers for the upcoming event.
As our group enters the theater pool tournament setting, I am shocked to see I'm playing against a field of 16 including the likes of Miss America, Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne, Casey Mears and others. After I spank Miss America and run the nascar drivers into the perverbial wall, the championship match is myself against retired WWF wrestler PrettyBoy Larry Sharpe. Its was a tough match with take downs and half nelsons going against cold weather and rogue waves. In the end, the Bering Sea Crab Fisherman, Russell Newberry, prevails! I then accept a check for ten thousand dollars that I donated to operationtroopaid.org, a program designed to send care packages to our young men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan. It doesn't matter if you are red or blue, or if you believe in whats going on over there or not, the bottom line is we need to show our support.
As we leave the tournament, Randy and Sean are congratulating me and buying the beer. Larry is wondering how he is going to get my swelled head into the RV and back across the bridge into New Jersey...

Valenzano Wine Festival, Shamong, NJ
September 20-21, 2009
If Russell and Larry thought the Jazz It Up festival was chaotic, then they were in for a huge surprise at the Valenzano Wine Festival in Shamong NJ on September 19 and 20. With over ten thousand "wonderful winos" in attendance, Russ found himself signing over 1500 bottles (among other things) of his signature wines, Dangerous RED and Russell's New Berry. Russell's mother and father, Russ and Claudia were there to witness the event, sip some wine and taste Russell's Famous Jumbo Lump Crabcakes created by Chispanic Enterprises, Inc. Both were approved by Mom! The weather was beautiful, the people were great and the Valenzano's put on one heck of a party!
Jazz It Up Festival, Allaire State Park, NJ
September 4-5, 2009
The Jazz It Up wine festival was held at Allaire State Park in New Jersey on September 5 and 6. It was the unofficial launch of Russell Newberry's new brands of wine, Dangerous RED and Russell's New Berry wines created by the Valenzano winery. Even though Russ and his partner Larry were amazed at the "controlled chaos" created by the festival, with the help of the Valenzano team they were able to make the event successful.
Shop-Rite Personal Appearance, Cinnaminson, NJ
September 4, 2009
Everyone’s favorite Russell Newberry, deck boss of the Time Bandit was the most gracious and cordial ambassador of the Discovery Channel's “Deadliest Catch” as he appeared at the new Shop Rite in Cinnaminson New Jersey. Russell greeted his fans, signed autographs, posed for many photos- at least two for everyone and answered a ton of questions about the show and the new wines he produces with Valenzano Winery in Shamong, NJ. I’ve been to many signings from ball players to deck bosses- none were nicer than Russell. Well done. See Photos from this event.
